Liposuction
In simple terms, liposuction is the name given to the process of making a special vacuum or injectors. Liposuction is also known as “Fat Removal”. This procedure is performed to fix the body image by removing excess fat from the body. With liposuction, it is possible to remove sagging skin and cellulite.
Some fat in the body resists and does not decrease despite diet or exercise. Liposuction is an operation that removes these resistant fats in the body and thus reduces the fat percentage in the body. Liposuction, is a surgical procedure in which fat is removed from the body by absorbing the fat accumulated in certain parts of the body by special vacuum or through special injections. It is definitely not a slimming surgery, but a body contour correction surgery. With this surgery,while the fatty tissue that increases in size and is resistant to diet and exercise is removed from the body, the number of fat cells present is also reduced.
Liposuction surgery takes between 2-4 hours on average, depending on the condition of the person to be operated on and the amount of fat to be removed. After the liposuction surgery, the patients are kept under observation overnight.
Liposuction can be applied to many parts of the body. The areas in which liposuction surgery is performed are listed below.

Liposuction is a surgery performed under local or general anesthesia. In liposuction surgery, 1-2 mm incisions are made to the skin in the area where the fat will be removed. Vacuum-operated cannulas, which are smaller than the cuts, are inserted into the incisions made in the skin. By moving the inserted cannulas, it is ensured that the fat in that area is separated, fragmented and excreted from the body.
After the liposuction surgery, the cut areas in the body are stitched and the area is bandaged. After the liposuction surgery, the bandage is changed occasionally and the patient is dressed in a corset.
Liposuction is a surgery that is performed with many different techniques. From the past to the present, the most classic and popular are 5 different types of liposuction. The types of liposuction are listed below
- Vacuum Assisted Liposuction (SAL): A liquid mixture is administered to the area where fat removal will be performed before the surgery. 2 mm holes are drilled in the area where the fat removal process will be performed and degreasing is performed with 3 mm cannulas. It is a technique that can be performed with both local and general anesthesia.
- Ultrasonic Liposuction (UAL): The fat removal process is performed by applying ultrasonic sound waves. With ultrasonic liposuction, the tissues surrounding the area where the fat is removed are not damaged.
- Water Assisted Liposuction (WAL): In water assisted liposuction, water is injected under the skin in the area where the fat will be removed. By injecting water, fat that have become slurry can easily be removed.
- Power Assisted Liposuction (PAL): In power assisted liposuction, fats are removed from the area using movable cannulas.
- Radio Frequency Assisted Liposuction (RFAL): After the fats removed by vacuuming method, the skin is heated with laser and the skin becomes more taut and tight.
Liposuction is not a slimming method, it is an operation that aims to fix the body shape and remove unwanted excess fat. Therefore, it is not correct to say that liposuction surgery directly causes weight loss. With liposuction surgery, a thinning of the body appearance is observed. Liposuction, which aims to reduce the fat in certain parts of the body, can also be applied to people who do not have excessive weight problems.
Liposuction is usually a light operation. Mild pain may be felt after liposuction surgery, but it is possible to relieve the pain with medications.
